Organizing what you have and taking care of your belongings can sometimes be a struggle. This is especially true when you are pressured for time and/or do not have the space to fit everything in. However, I feel like there is always a way to come up with new ideas and solutions to overcome this and take pride in the pieces that make up your wardrobe.

Here is a quick background story about where I am coming from:

When I originally moved into my room, it was dusty, had old rat traps and rat poison on the shelves, and had little to no insulation. However, with some handy-dandy cleaning supplies and some strategic thinking, I turned my room into a place that I absolutely love and that works for me. I went through my collection of thrifted items that I had from Austin, Dallas, and Corsicana, furniture in the attic, and bought a rack from Target

to help my room become more organized and comfortable.

Here are some of the methods I used for my room that may help you, too!

1. Focus on a Theme: I love history. Moreover, I love the Victorian era and a more Romantic style. When I started to buy items from thrift stores and antique shops, I was always drawn to old perfume bottles, vanities, and beautiful designs on old powder containers. Eventually, I began to collect art work that reflected that very style.

2. Look for interesting containers and furniture: Once you have the stuff that you love, you should then start thinking about whether or not you want to have them out in the open or kept away somewhere. For me, I really enjoy and find it easier to be able to see most of my wardrobe out in the open. Of course I also have items in a drawer, but it is so much better for me to have a rack or string on a wall with some of my clothes on it.

When it comes to accessories, I organize them based on what their purpose is. Perfume, for example, is right next to my bed. This makes it pretty effortless to dab a drop of fragrance when I am in a hurry. And simply enough, I have a love affair with glass bottles. MmmMmmMm.

Finally, take pride in what you have! It took me a while to come to this point. I use to value things based on how much they cost or how much use they had to me. After moving into this house, I came to realize that it is important to value more in your life (and I am not just talking about clothes or things). Learning not to take things or people for granted is something I think everyone has to work at. When it comes to my wardrobe, I’ve stopped just taking care of the more “expensive” items, but also the pieces that are hand-me-downs or thrifted.

Above are some photos of what I have so far and what works for me. It doesn’t take me long anymore to know where things are in my room, and for me, it is pleasing to the eye.

Love others. Love yourself. Love life!
